WSLA Residential Week

We love it when a new relationship begins with a recommendation, so we’re thrilled to be partnering with the Women’s Sport Leadership Academy following a recommendation from Clare Barrell of UK Sport after she attended our Performance Hub Women in Leadership Sharing Event on Belonging.

The Academy, known as WSLA, provides unique development opportunities for female leaders across the globe to make an impact and influence the sporting landscape.

WSLA’s annual Residential Week, held at the University of Chichester, is a core component of the Academy, which has a philosophy to empower women to be great leaders. For 2022, WSLA has engaged Leading Edge to design and deliver a fun, engaging and impactful week of activities to support around 25 outstanding female leaders to fulfil their leadership potential and enhance their careers.

We’ll support the participants to become better leaders, with an approach based on our Leadership Point of View, anchored in three inherent tensions of leadership: Authentic Self, Find Ways to Win and In Service of Others. With a focus on developing leadership skills, we’ll celebrate the success of these female leaders while facilitating sharing to build on their strengths as a collective, create a sense of belonging and encourage ongoing networking as they return to their roles.

 

 

About Women’s Sport Leadership Academy

The Women’s Sport Leadership Academy (WSLA) is dedicated to developing tomorrow’s leaders of sport with the aim of preparing and supporting them to step up and be part of an increased cohort of female leaders in sport.

Since 2014, more than 300 women based in 60 countries spanning six continents have become graduates of the Academy. They come from a range of sports organisations, including national Olympic and Paralympic committees, international and national sport federations, sport for development charities and organisations, and sports departments in universities.

In addition to the residential programme, WSLA provides facilitator training and support, graduate support, networking and mentoring, research, and programmes delivered under licence around the world.

Sarah Wright is Concept Designer at Leading Edge and a Team Coach for the WSLA Residential Week. She told us:

“I’m hugely excited to have the opportunity to be in a room with such a diverse group of female leaders with an array of backgrounds and experience.

It is such a unique and privileged position to be in to help facilitate the participants’ learning and development – and, as an outcome, to have an impact on the message they will spread globally and how they will go on to inspire other women, particularly other young women, who will be the future of female leaders in sport.

The Residential Week will be intense and exhausting, but fun as well. That’s what great learning is all about! I’m proud to have this chance, working alongside Leading Edge Team Coach Tina Dullaghan and two former programme participants as co-facilitators, to influence and support, in a small part, the participants’ leadership journey.

I know I will learn so much, both through being involved in the week itself and through being in the company of these outstanding leaders and hearing their inspirational stories.”
